Nigerian cuisine

My last edible adventure landed me in a restaurant in Hyde Park called The African Cuisine. It was billed as West African food, primarily Nigerian. Definitely felt like I was dining in someone's kitchen....and had walked in through the back door.

I ordered FuFu, a doughy ball often made from root vegetables that is used to scoop up thick soup/stew. Eating with my hands I pinched off bits of my pounded yam fufu and loaded it with a thick okra soup. Typically you are provided with a bowl of water to wash your hands as they are your main eating utensil. I don't think I was authentic enough for our server to bother.I

ordered 'cow foot' as my meat option out of pure curiosity, not hunger. Turns out there isn't a whole lot of meat on a cow's foot. My horrified vegetarian companion stuck with a heaping plate of jollof rice, a West African staple. Other than that, root vegetables and goat meat dominate.
